This book is a ton of value for your money. A book like this was needed because of the growing popularity of this breed. It gives a good description of the breed as a pet, what to expect and what would be expected of you - the prospective owner. I've read through other Shiba books and most of them are geared more for those who are interested in competition/dog-show/breed history. This book will save you 'surfing' on the net. I'm sure all those Shiba puppies will be grateful to this author for prepping their new owners!

This is one of my favorite Shiba books. It represents a culmination of the years of knowledge and experience gleaned by hanging out with the best. It has almost everything that a person would want to know about the Shiba Inu. The authors are highly knowledgeable and have been involved in the breed since before 1986.

Fred Lanting, world renowned judge and Shiba Breeder, gives this book a glowing review...he calls it; concise, constructive, accurate, and comprehensive. In the back of the book are over 100 photos of the Shibas that were the foundation of the Shibas in America today. Many of the Shibas in Shibumi Shiba Inu's pedigrees are pictured there.

The Shiba Inu, one of the oldest native dogs of Japan, has grown in status as a popular show and companion dog. This top-quality book details the temperament of the Shiba and gives invaluable advice on training and socialization. The Breed Standard is discussed and there is a special section on showing and judging the breed.
